A private client inherited 900 hectares of historic Portuguese estate complete with a working farm, historic chapel, traditional Portuguese crafts, equestrian facilities, sauna, pool, and a newly built lake. He came to us with a clear set of values: wellness, heritage, sustainable agriculture and the question of how do we make this work?
We started where we always do: listening. Then dove into market research, trend forecasting. We mapped the wellness retreat boom, Lisbon's growing expat economy, and the rise of cultural immersion travel and matched it to what this family genuinely loved doing: hosting.
The insight wasn't complicated. They didn't need to build something new. They needed a model that made what they already had shareable without making it feel like a business.
We repositioned Agolada as a retreat and event destination, with a long-term roadmap toward agritourism, tiny housing, and farming programs. It became a self-sustaining model built around what the family already loved doing.
Guests now arrive to tile-making workshops, chapel tours, historic kitchens, equestrian experiences, and yoga on a working estate just outside Lisbon. Revenue flows through weddings, group retreats, workshops, and large-format celebrations while agricultural income offsets operational costs year-round.
